Our client is a global freight forwarding company with an excellent
reputation for their service capabilities.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the IMPORT DEPT in all operational disciplines.
- Timely reporting and compliance with deadlines. Monitor/handle
administrative functions, such as:
- Broker statistics and rejects report;
- Triennial report per 111.30 (d) USCR;
- Accounts Receivable (A/R);
- 'New hire' and 'termination' letters with U.S. Customs;
- Insurance claims;
- CGP report;
- Budget preparation;
- Annual statement to importers on optional duty payment method per
111.29 (b) USCR;
- Current list of employee names, addresses and social security
numbers submitted to U.S. Customs.
- Visit principle customers regularly and accompany sales staff on
visits, if needed.
- Monitor and update department staff and fellow department heads
and market trends/requirements and rate changes.
- Update branch management and colleagues on current status of
affairs during 'department head' meet-ing for further discussion and action.
- Assure proper information flow with sales on changes and/or
problems with external customers.
- Ensure proper training and education of the department staff and
procure cross-training.
- Monitor workload and adjust, if necessary.
- Evaluate staff performance on a regular basis, at least every six
months.
- Interview new staff members and recommend candidates for hire to
the branch manager.
- Monitor traffic and cost budget compliance and advise management
of any deviation.
- Hold regular (at least once per month) meetings with the
department staff.
- Display broker permit and license, as required.
- Monitor ABI statistics on a monthly basis and discuss reject ratio
and reasons with department staff.
Skills
- Knowledge of and compliance with corporate, branch and department
policies and procedures;
- Knowledge of government, other authorities' and carriers'
regulations.
- Full awareness of external and internal customers' requirements
and strive to exceed their expectations.
- Constant improvement of existing procedures and working
environment to advance the service level to the customer, profitability of
the corporation and well-being of fellow staff members.
- Awareness of all transactions handled in the department.
- Awareness of current status of affairs, i.e. number of
shipments/tonnage (by origin, customer, etc.); average profit per shipment
(by origin, customer, etc.).
