We have an immediate career opportunity for a highly qualified Import
Clearance & Compliance Manager in the San Francisco area. The Import Clearance &
Compliance Manager will be responsible for the efficient management and
coordination of customs clearance activities in the customs house brokerage or
gateway environment. Responsibilities include computing tariffs, duties, price
conversions, weight, and volume of merchandise exported/imported to/from foreign
destinations. The Import Clearance & Compliance Manager will ensure compliance
with federal and foreign regulations governing the shipment, receipt, and
documentation of imported/exported products. Travel to CVG HUB and LAX for
training will be required during the first 90 days on the job, and occasional
management of off-hour operations is required.
Key Accountabilities:
Establishes, monitors, and revises policies, procedures, and service
standards for customs clearance operations.
- Ensures compliance with federal and foreign regulations governing the
shipment, receipt, and documentation of imported/exported products being
shipped through all DHL facilities.
- Responsible for meeting key performance indicator targets for a given
product.
- Manages customs clearance activities in a cost-effective manner.
- Utilizes excellent computer skills to do in-house, on-floor reporting.
- Examines various documents including invoices, bills of lading, and
shipping statements.
- May contact customs officials to obtain release of incoming freight and
resolve delays.
- Responsible for hiring, coaching, training, developing, and supervision
of subordinate staff.
- Supervises 10-15 employees and reports on-floor activities to a
supervisor.
- Assigns work, sets completion dates, reviews work, and manages
performance in accordance with organizational policies, procedures, and
performance management processes.
- Maintains thorough and up-to-date knowledge of DHL policies and
procedures, and interfaces with Customs (located on-site) on a regular
basis.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree and 6-8 years experience in a related field, including
at least 2 years of supervisory experience.
- Customs Broker License.
- Excellent computer skills, including proficiency creating reports in
Microsoft Excel and the ability to navigate Microsoft Word and PowerPoint at
an expert level.
- Ability to learn departmental platforms for reporting while effectively
utilizing DHL software.
- Import experience and extensive knowledge of import processes and
procedures.
- Ability to manage cross-cultural tactical issues.
