Job Description
Overview:
The Director of Customs Compliance will have responsibility for all
Import/Export customs and trade compliance programs related to Carhartt. This
position will develop, manage and grow the company's "best practice" global
import/export compliance program, policies and procedures to ensure compliance
with all applicable export and import laws, statutes and regulations across all
functions and global business entities. The scope of the role includes the
oversight of all inbound and outbound goods (raw materials, finished goods, and
capital equipment) with regard to compliance with US, Mexico, Canada and other
foreign government programs.
Resonsibilities:
- Develop and communicate the Carhartt compliance program for imports and
exports.
- Develop global processes and procedures, and ensure the standard
implementation in all business units for: employee trade compliance training
relevant to job function, due diligence processes, application of import /
export licenses and exceptions, self-audit procedures, record keeping,
document preparation, and processes that lend themselves to global
implementation.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures covering Customs
compliance in accordance with the CARHARTT compliance program.
- Monitor U.S. government programs and regulatory requirements,
developments, plan and implement internal programs/policies that will ensure
CARHARTT's standing with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) as a low
risk importer/exporter.
- Function as corporate spokesperson for CARHARTT with U.S. Customs and
Border Protection, Bureau of Industry and Security and other government
agencies as they relate to customs and global trade issues.
- Work directly with the functional groups to respond to all official
government inquiries, supply chain security issues, requests for information
and/or focused assessments of CARHARTT business processes and controls.
- Implement business best practices and operational changes within
CARHARTT as appropriate.
- Co-manage CARHARTT’s C-TPAT program and implement best practices and
training for complying with agreed to procedures.
- Provide decision support on day to day compliance matters: North
America, Central America, EMEA, and APAC as required.
- Ensure an experienced and informed team by providing the Customs
compliance employees (worldwide) with update training on all aspects of
Customs compliance, in the most cost effective manner.
- Ensure all operating systems, files and databases relevant to
import/export activities are operating in compliance.
- Manage 3rd parties providing Customs compliance services.

Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor’s or Engineering degree in Logistics, Supply Chain or similar.
Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain or similar.
- Valid US Customs Broker License (CCS may be accepted with other related
experience)
- Minimum 10 years U.S. regulatory Import, Export and Re-export trade
compliance experience
- Complete understanding of U.S. Customs and Border Protection Regulations
(19 CFR), including knowledge of Customs valuation and classification under
the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the U.S.
- Understand country of origin and marking issues, record keeping
requirements, and supply chain security regulations as they relate to
imports.
- Experience working with appropriate US international Customs regulatory
agencies, especially the US.
- Experience developing a formal Customs compliance program with a global
organization.

Working Conditions:
- Normal office environment
- Travel may be required approximately 30%.
- Ability to travel internationally – valid passport.
- Position may be based out of either Dearborn, MI or Hanson, KY.
