Director of Global Trade Compliance

Position Summary:

  • The Director of Global Trade Compliance leads the worldwide trade compliance function, including strategy, policy, operational execution, and all related activities to ensure compliance with all import and export laws and regulations.
  • Core Responsibilities and Functions:
  • Define, implement, execute, and oversee Trade Compliance strategies, policies, and activities
  • Direct and oversee Trade Compliance personnel
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure achievement of business objectives while ensuring compliance with all relevant trade related laws and regulations
  • Define and document policies, procedures, training materials, and other necessary documentation to ensure compliance with global and local trade laws and regulations
  • Develop and implement programs that ensures global trade compliance through use of process, technology, and people including full integration into business processes
  • Perform and oversee all trade compliance activities including properly classifying export goods with varying levels of encryption and obtaining Commerce and State Department licenses, as needed
  • Implement reviews/audits to monitor for and report instances of non-compliance; take necessary corrective actions and refine program to avoid recurrence
  • Lead periodic assessment of all aspects of the trade compliance function and make refinements, as necessary
  • Manage, coach and mentor trade compliance staff
  • Design and administer training programs on trade compliance requirements
  • Advise and support all business functional areas on all trade compliance matters

Required skills & experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Must qualify as a "U.S. Person" as defined in the ITAR and EAR
  • 12+ years in progressively responsible, hands-on trade compliance leadership roles with a multi-national corporation
  • Experience defining, implementing, and transforming global trade compliance programs

Preferred skills & experience

  • Advanced degree
  • Certified U.S. Export Compliance Officer (CUSECO) or equivalent
  • Customs Brokers License
  • 5+ years’ experience classifying exports and obtaining licenses in the electronics industry

Required Knowledge

  • Expert knowledge of US trade statutes and regulations (ITAR, EAR, CBP) and the ability to interpret and translate them into business practices
  • Working knowledge of global trade compliance requirements
  • Ability to properly classify and export goods with varying levels of encryption
  • Proven track record in launching and maintaining secure supply chain programs such as C-TPAT (USA), AEO (EMEA) and others such as STP Plus (Singapore)
  • Working knowledge of SNAP-R and obtaining export licenses
  • Working knowledge of domestic and international logistics and distribution
  • Proficient at streamlining and optimizing processes
  • General knowledge of business operations including sales, purchasing, quality, operations, finance, HR, and IT
  • Strong familiarity with ERP systems and related functionalities
  • Proficient in MS Office
